Mauna Kea, Hawai‘i's Highest Peak
Mauna Kea, Hawai‘i’s Highest Peak

Our conference theme this year, Kūlia is the Hawaiian word for “Strive”, as in “Strive to Reach the Highest”.  This exemplifies HDA’s 75th Anniversary mission to recognize our past kupuna (accomplishments) and to strive for future professional achievements. We look towards our highest peak, Mauna Kea, as a source of inspiration. Hawai‘i’s Mauna Kea rises an astonishing 33,476 feet (10,203 meters) from the depths of the Pacific Ocean floor, and measured from base to peak, it is the tallest mountain on earth. The summit of Mauna Kea is called Puu Wekiu and it is at an elevation of 13,796 feet (4,205 meters), making it the highest point of land in the Pacific Basin.
