Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Teach courses in food science and services, principles of food preparation/sanitation. restaurant or cafeteria management, institutional purchasing, quantity food management, food and beverage management.
  • Courses to be taught may include FSHN 181-Introduction to Food Preparation, FSHN 181L-Food Preparation Laboratory, FSHN 311-Institutional Food Service Management, FSHN 312-Quantity Foods/Institutional Food Purchasing or other courses in line with department needs and priorities.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in food-service, food science, culinary/hospitality management, or related field, from a college or university of recognized standing.
  • Evidence of ability to teach effectively and to direct groups discussions.
  • Poise and good address for meeting and conferring with other.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Three (3) or more years of documented work experience in the field of food science, food service or professional catering.
    Two (2) years of college-level teaching experience in one or more of the following subjects/courses: restaurant or cafeteria management, quantity food production, principles of food preparation, basic food science, food sanitation, quality control, quality assurance or institutional purchasing.
  • Formal training (diploma or certificate from an accredited institution) in quantity food production, professional cooking/baking, healthy food or other comparable food experience/training.
  • Expertise or experience working as food service manager.
  • Experience in teaching courses commonly taught in Food Science and Human Nutrition or Certified Dietetics Programs.
  • Expertise or experience as an institutional purchaser/buyer in a restaurant or food-service operation.
  • Experience with tropical, Asian and/or Pacific Island foods.
