Award Nominations

Aloha kākou,

It’s awards season again! As members of the Hawaii Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, I want to first and foremost thank you for yet another year of work in dedication to the betterment of our communities.

As we grow and work together, we want to recognize those of us who have done great work this year. From inspiring the classroom of food professional hopefuls, engaging citizens in leading healthier lives, to everything in between and beyond, dietitians, technicians, and even students are making a difference at every level, every day.

Therefore, if you or someone you know deserves one of our honors, please nominate yourself or this colleague. The awardees will be recognized at the annual Spring Conference on May 4, 2018. The awards and their criteria are as follows:

• Emerging Dietetic Leader
• Outstanding Dietetic Student Award
• Outstanding Dietitian of the Year
• Recognized Young Dietitian of the Year
• Recognized Dietetic Technician of the Year

2017-2018 Leadership Elections

As a member of the Hawai‘’i Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, we would like to invite you to join our Leadership team as an elected board member. Be part of a strong and dedicated board of food and nutrition professionals in the state of Hawai‘i.

  • be involved in the decision-making process for the progression and advancement of Food and Nutrition professionals in Hawai’i
  • earn 3 continuing education credits

All Active and Retired HAND members are eligible to run for office.

Contact our Nominating Committee Chair, Tandis Bishop, if you are interested in or have question about any of these positions for the upcoming 2017-2018 Academy year. We are a supportive, fun group (we think), so don’t be daunted!

The following are vacant elected positions with a brief description of each.

President-Elect

  • Year 1 – shadow and assist current President, Year 2 as President, Year 3 as Past-President
  • Attend Academy’s FNCE conference, all expenses paid
  • Lead board meetings and appoint chairperson’s to committees
  • Serve as HAND’s primary spokesperson
  • Term of Office: 3 years total (President-Elect, President, Past-President)

Treasurer-Elect

  • Year 1 – shadow and assist current Treasurer, Year 2 as Treasurer
  • Prepare and submit annual budget to Board for approval
  • Prepare and present financial report for each regularly scheduled Board meeting.
  • Submit tax-related filings
  • Term of Office: 2 years (first year as Treasurer-Elect and 2nd year as Treasurer)

Council on Professional Issues, CPI Chair-Elect

  • Year 1 – shadow and assist current CPI Chair, Year 2 as CPI Chair
  • Sponsor continuing education events for members
  • Plan annual Spring Conference
  • Term of Office: 2 years (first year as CPI Chair-Elect and 2nd year as CPI Chair)
