Farm to Jar Part 2: Understanding Gut Health and the Microbiome + Kimchi Workshop

Farm to Jar is back by popular demand! This time, we’ll learn how to make KIMCHI.

Join the CPI committee on Friday, April 5th at 5:00 pm at the University of Hawaii at Manoa Agricultural Sciences Building in room 219. Master food preserver, Terri Langley, is joining us again to teach the art of making kimchi. This workshop will also focus on gut health and the microbiome, with a presentation by UHM Nutrition PhD graduate student Solange Saxby. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to earn 2 CEUs at this fun workshop!

Save by purchasing your tickets online for $35, and you will also be guaranteed a jar for kimchi making. Tickets are available at the door for $45, no jar guaranteed. There are only a limited amount of spaces available! Purchase your tickets by April 1 to reserve your seat. Bring an additional STERILIZED jar from home and you’ll receive a raffle ticket. A limited amount of additional jars will also be available for purchase.

Dinner will be served promptly at 5:00 pm. Presentation on gut health and the microbiome, by Solange Saxby to follow. Kimchi workshop, by Terri Langley to follow. Raffle tickets will be available for purchase at the door.

Parking options for Agricultural Sciences Bldg, University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa campus: 

1. No-fee parking after 4 pm in the St. Francis School parking lot: 2707 Pamoa Rd, Honolulu, HI 96822. Click here for directions.

2. UH at Manoa campus parking after 4 pm. $6 flat rate fee to park in any stall. Pay at guard kiosk at entry of campus. 

3. Street parking on Pamoa Road (limited).

Muay Thai (Kickboxing) Class – February 16

Help support HAND’s 80th Annual Spring Conference by joining the CPI committee on February 16, 2019 at The Mango Tree Fitness for an introductory Muay Thai class. Muay Thai, also known as Thai Kickboxing, is a combat sport of Thailand that uses stand/up striking along with other various clinching techniques. This discipline is known as the “art of eight limbs” as it is characterized by the combined use of fists, elbows, knees, and shins.

Farm to Jar – December 14, 2018

FUNDRAISING AND NETWORKING EVENT

Have you been curious about the art of pickling? Have a “green thumb” but need some tips on how to start your home garden? Don’t miss our next HAND fundraising and networking night! Join us on December 14, 2018 at 5:00 in Hawaii Kai for a night of pickling and gardening fun. By participating in this event, you’ll go home with a mason jar filled of pickled produce. We’ll also be learning basic gardening tips. You can earn 1 CPEU for attending. Food will be provided, courtesy of Ruby Tuesday’s. Something to Wine About – October 12, 2018

FUNDRAISING AND NETWORKING EVENT

Aloha Everyone!

“Wine” down at the end of a busy week with our third wine tasting fundraising event on Friday, October 12, 2018 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. Join the Hawai‘i Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics for an evening of socializing and networking at Oeno Winemaking while helping to raise funds for our 2019 HAND Annual Spring Conference. Sample locally, hand made wines while enjoying live entertainment.

For a $35 fee, each participant will be provided with a flight of wine samples and light pupus. We will also be having raffle tickets for purchase.

This event is limited to 35 participants so sign up now while tickets last!

This event is open to both HAND and Non-HAND members. Participants must be at least 21 to participate in the wine tasting, although students are encouraged to come for conversation and connection. Nonalcoholic beverages are available.
