HDA held its second annual State Legislative Day on Wednesday, March 13.  Six members of HDA and 3 students mingled with legislators and legislative staff members during the two hour breakfast and networking session.  We discussed the status of our licensure law and talked about several nutrition-related bills which were introduced this session.  KCC’s Culinary Arts department partnered with us and provided about 150 baked items which were gone in less than 45 minutes.  The morning ended with personal visits to the offices of 18 key legislators where we dropped off bags of local produce and met with four legislators.  Our visits averaged 20 minutes and we got to discuss topics such as farm to school programs, RD licensure and childhood obesity.  A big mahalo to all those who made this day a successful event.
