Jennifer Schmidt, MS, RD
Jennie Schmidt, MS, RD, is a dietitian turned farmer. She and her husband and his family own and operate Schmidt Farms Inc., a 2000-acre, 3rd generation family farm on the Eastern Shore of Maryland growing corn, soybeans, wheat, barley, hay, tomatoes, green beans, and wine grapes. The farm has practiced all different types of farming systems including conventional, biotechnology, and certified organic.
Jennie’s marriage of farming and nutrition has led her to be an advocate and educator about agriculture, farming systems and our food supply. Jennie is active in agricultural leadership being past-president of the Maryland Grape Growers Association, currently serves on the Maryland Grain Producers Association, the US Wheat Foods Council, and is Chairman of the Maryland Farm Bureau Specialty Crops Committee. She is also a member of the Hunger and Environmental Nutrition dietetic practice group. In 2011, she was selected America’s Farm Mom of the Year for the Northeast Region.
